a note from cc

two weeks into our adventures in england and it is so lovely that I thought I would take over from mama and write a few words. time has been passing by swiftly and it is now one week since we caught the train down to the countryside and said farewell to bustling london.
during our final few days in the city I spent time with my two kind aunties. went to galleries and raced around their bookshops. bravely mounted a stone sheep in the park, then collected crimson autumn leaves. strolled around mama's favourite saturday market and then took a trip to the enchanting far store on columbia road. took morning coffee and cake with sylvie at the tiny violet cake shop, as we watched the staff merrily bake. then met up with little folk my size, including handsome atlas, in his neckerchief and soft bobble hat, who I made friends with in hospital when I was just four days old.
these are a few of my favoured pictures from our time in the city. we will write about our current days in countryside very soon.

these smoggy streets

two days into our time in england.
cc and I were sat beside a tattooed american on the aeroplane over. his name was joe. he guzzled his beers and stretched his wide thighs across the seats. cc shyly touched his faded tattoos then nestled into my sweater trying to hide for the rest of the flight, til we safely landed.
the first days back in these smoggy streets have been filled with trips to spitalfields antiques market. taking walks with friends by the canal and around dalston curve garden. sharing coffee and sweet cake. and cc seeing both his wonderful aunties. our suitcase already has an antique checkered blanket, two tin jelly moulds, and a pair of brogues added to it. so now its time to settle down for a nights rest with cc, so we can wake tomorrow morning ready for another day of adventures.

to london to london

tonight cc and I are setting sail for london town. cc's pa sadly can't come so we will be traveling as a twosome, filling our month abroad with adventures to satisfy this little mister's get up and go. although journeying overnight will have its struggles with cc, it will be a hundred times worth the sleepless night to see the sunrise over dear hackney and feel that bustling to and fro of the city again. see you in a month nova scotia.

some pictures from this week: cc's treasured toy mammoth. the two misters beside a brewery. morning peeks through the back door.

cc's great uncle

cc met his great uncle john for the first time this week, when him and his wife came to town for the day. cc waved them in from mabel's front door. he was in awe of his uncle's moustache, clapped at their english accents, and content with the gifts they so kindly bought him from new york city.
after coffee and catching up in mabel we headed to a tavern for some hearty food and drinks. cc then strutted along the wooden boardwalk, proud to be out with his great uncle and aunty, then waved farewell as they took to the seas once more.
we felt so fortunate to have them visit us at home in nova scotia. sometimes it feels cut off here, with family hundreds of miles away. then from one short visit the world seems smaller again and we are all re-connected.

the first of the month

the first of the month has arrived already. the trees around mabel are starting to shed, covering stones underfoot with amber coloured leaves. over toast and tea this morning we bade farewell to september. then to welcome in october we baked some brown sugar biscuits, to-ing and fro-ing around the stove to the french tunes on the radio.
this was cc, together with his wooden train and biscuit, in the garden this morning. it felt comforting to pull on autumn sweaters and scuff boots through the fallen leaves. happy first day to you october, it is wonderful to have you here.
